Re: Sprint 6C build up

Very very nice !!!

Are they heavy ? Do you think the flange will hold the weight or will you add a rubber mount on the car to hold them up ?

Re: Sprint 6C build up

The flanges at the end of the manifold are rubber mounted to the cross member and I will have a mounting rubber clamped on the curved pipe at the other end of the silencer boxes.

Re: Sprint 6C build up

A good days work - Silencers checked for mounting and bumper modified for tail pipes. The front drivers lower corner of the windscreen has been cut out, the sud repair panel modified, a strengthening tube added and the panel welded in place. I will be rebuilding underneath hopefully tomorrow along with the A pillar repair. I have also been filling and flattening the rear arches.......

Re: Sprint 6C build up

nice job on getting the sud panels adapted, quite a bit of difference between them in the end
still worth buying though i guess as it would be a tricky patch to make from scratch
nicely done

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Those exhaust look lovely! I see there is two silencers, does this mean you are having essentially two seperate exhaust systems, one from each bank? Or are the systems joining up somewhere underneath before splitting again?

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Yes Pud - there are two separate systems. Probably not ideal, but to get a linked system,in that space, using the existing manifold and flexi-pipe would have made it a horribly complex (=expensive!) job.

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Why would two systems not be ideal? Surely as long as it was properly tuned.. What diameter piping are you using for the exhausts?

Re: Sprint 6C build up

The piping is just under 2" ID so it should be very free flowing! By having a linked system you can get a more even scavenging effect and the Lamda sensor will "see" all the cylinders. Mine will only read from one bank of the engine. As with almost everything else on the car - I'll just have to try it and see what happens.
I have now got most of my drivers "A" pillar plated. I now need to rebuild the wing mounting rail area.
I'm sure somebody posted a picture of that area from a good Sprint -which I now cannot find - any ideas where it is would be welcome.

Re: Sprint 6C build up

2" per bank is quite a lot! I forgot about the lambda too.. If one of the unread bank is running too rich or lean you aren't going to know about it.

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Thanks Kev and S16V - I thought that I was missing a piece! There is a big corner section that goes to the top of the A pillar from the wing that will need fabricating and welding. On both sides - Ho Hum!

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Just done some more body filling on the roof and rear wings - seems to take me forever to get a reasonably smooth profile and finish......
hoping to get more welding done tomorrow........

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Got some more pictures for you of the front wing sixnut.

Hope these help a bit more

Dont worry about body filling, it will seem that it takes forever to get it right. Its best to do it 1 pannel at a time

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Thanks for the pictures Supercharged I got a bit more filling and stuff done today - then I got fed up of seeing it all in bits so I put a door in place, then fixed the sill end cover, put the rear glass in, put the hatch back on - took some pictures - played with exhaust tail pipes (- as comments have been made elsewhere about twin tail pipes, here are mine ) and took another picture!

Re: Sprint 6C build up

That was a really rusty Sprint you have there Alfasixnut.
I have found rust on the same spot on my Sprint, but not as bad as yours, and I am very happy for that.
Didn't you cut away all the rust under the modified new Sud panel?

I must say that I am a little jealous that you have come so far.
I can tell you that I have no time for my Sprint 6C projekt at all.
My Alfasud and my yellow Sprint take all my attention.

Supercharged16v: Thanks for the pictures, now I can see exactly where the original welding spots where located with out taking the fender of one of my other Sprints.
I am geek because I am trying to weld it exactly as it was original.
Thats the only way for me to make it funny.
