Re: Sprint 6C build up

The trouble with these Alfa plus type kits is they sweep into the rear panel which makes the car no wider so when looked at from behind you end up with to much tyre showing, the fronts look ok.

Sixnut

Have you thought about using another rear bumper as you are making your rear arches you can play away to yours hearts content.

Lauren

Your right 70's wheels do come across as having more character and detail, the BBS double zero series are bang on and if I could have found some they would have been my first choice.

My Sud went for its MOT today, but I have no idea how it did as I have not called the garage to find out. Fingers crossed, I will call tomorrow.

Sixnut

The guys had a 164 down at the yard, I could check the bumper if you want.

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Thanks for the offer 302 but I actually have (now had) a 164 rear bumper and it was way too big. The Sprint one will be fine with some fettling - the rear arch has been reshaped a bit more at the rear bottom and you can only just see the tyre.

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Well it is the weekend and I have got a bit more done. This time I have cut some more vertical slots in the old wing so that it blends better into the "new" wing (from an MGB GT repair section). I still have got to fill in the old Fuel filler flap section. I have trimmed the top edge off the rear bumper where it goes forward along the wings and it looks like it will be ok with a bit more "fiddling"

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Thanks for the kind words Eddie - they are certainly appreciated and I am in awe of the very high standard of your - and other AO's car restoration/build ups.
I've sold some more 164 parts on e-bay and so have ordered the lower corner windscreen repair panels from Germany - they are for a sud but I will modify them to suit the Sprint (- having been shown them by Kev at Mitcar last year)

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Nice Sixnut !

Just wondering if it would have been better to remove the upper rear wing section completely and make a new one instead of cutting the excisting - extremely rusty - panel.

I think most of that is surface dimples.

Sixnut, if it is a problem try JENOLITE it takes weak metal and makes it weldable I have used it for years and found it to be better than KURUST.

Re: Sprint 6C build up

16V I agree that the top edge of the old wings is in poor (shot!) condition - but keeping the panel in place made it much easier to fit the lower bulging BGT panel. I will replace the top edge with a suitable section but it will also be covered by a sealing strip to the glass - which will be non opening and fixed to the top window frame section.
Thanks for the jenolite tip 302 - I will get hold of some and try it on the odd bit of rust ?

Re: Sprint 6C build up

hope the german panels fit ok for you 6, on mine it even took a bit of fiddling and they did look a bit different on a sprint? maybe they will fit a sprint better easier than trying to make all the shape from scratch though
cars starting to take shape now

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Well lots done today as the pics will show (but not at the moment!)- more work on the two rear wings - most of the welding done on the outside and it will look a lot better when I put some body filler on!
Then I put the box section into the Sill - to be covered when I get the correct Sprint sills (Now ready from S Parry but it is the logistics of swopping the Sud Sills here, with the Sprint sills being in South Shields and me being in Bedford).
Then I had a go at fitting the Panda tailgate as my "thermoacoustic barrier"

That rear bulkhead is coming along nicely - you'll have a great view of those chrome intakes in the mirror

Re: Sprint 6C build up

Well I've got a bit more done to get the bulkhead fitted (pain of a job in the top corners) and some small jobs (oil cooler bracket, plate over "notch" in the mid cross member) but I've also heard from "Italian Car Day" about some of the others coming --10 Lamborghinis plus Ferraries (?) etc Anyway I have to get the car "as smart as possible" and so will get a pro paintjob after all rather than my DIY! ...
....and I still dither about colour
But there are a couple of local sprayers so I will have words and be guided by them - possibly!

Re: Sprint 6C build up

That is a lot of work Sixnut !

Almost done there with the wheel arches and the door inside !

.... makes me wonder what is the next thing you will deal with

After this, it will be done in no time !!!

.... and I think you should paint it red as the original was
