Other motorists comments

last week I got a comment from a white van driver pulling out of a T junction as I was pulling up to park,
"Nice Alfa mate"

Today whilst filling up with petrol another driver said,
"Nice car mate"

Any other other members get this? Nice to know other motorists appreciate a good old classic Alfa even though mine isn't the tidiest.

I get this all the time here in Uruguay
There only a handful of 33 series 2 cars left here.
Most garages I pull into haven't even seen one before! When they see the twin carbs on either side then they are really impressed!

Well yesterday I got thumbs up and waves from a convertible car with 3 pretty girls !
...I was driving my 1968 MINI though
For real !

My Sprint used to get lots of positive comments before I took it apart for the restoration.
The carb sound with velocity stacks turned a lot of heads
The only disappointment I had with the Sprint (comment wise) was a British guy in Agia Napa a few summers ago, when he was crossing the road in front of me, stopped and gave me a thumbs up and said " YEAHHH ...... SCIROCCO !!!"

My 33 ocasionally gets a few positive comments due to the condition its in, but I'm sure the comments arent coming from people who know what a 16v 33 is like !

My Sud.... well it was in a sorry state to be honest, even before the accident.
The only comments I got with my Sud, were not positive
Well ok, maybe a couple of good words were thrown in ....

In other words, the boys like the Sprint and 33, and the girls are crazy about the MINI

I've had a few recently, had a polish guy try and buy it off me a few weeks ago, I politely declined his offer. Drove past a 164 the other day and got a thumbs up and a beep. A few years ago I had aa few people ask it was a 3.3 litre.......with 16 valves......huuummm

Alfasud 1978

My Alfasud turns heads quite oftenly as most people haven't seen one in their life. Once I was driving on a city dual carriage, a british guy came my side opened his window and with thumbs up told me he had a similar one in the UK years ago. People who used to have an Alfa in the 70s & 80s love it and praise for it's immaculate condition. Mind you it has never been resprayed.

Last year while been to the tyre shop the assistant there was looking at the front axles and was wondering why the car didn't have any brakes at the front.

I actually convinced one guy that they werent mandatory back then (the front brakes)

He believed me, up to the point when my friend Giorgos couldnt keep a straight face any longer and started laughing

Matt, good luck is a positive comment mate, you should take it as a compliment
As in.... having such a car is good luck !

GTV6 QV(Giulietta Sud 75)

I've had a few positive comments / "thumbs-up" for the GTV6. A number of years ago when I had an Alfetta GT 1.6 a bloke came up to me in a pub (he wasn't drunk!) and said his wife loved my car so much that he wanted to buy it from me there and then!

The Sud has been off the road for so long that it hasn't had a chance to be appreciated ... maybe next year!

Alfasud Sprints & 1750gtv

I've yet to have a negative although the younger generation need to be told what they are looking at most of the time... when we showed both sprints at the Scottish Motorshow a couple of the apprentice mechanics from the local Alfa dealership had no idea what carbs did... sad really the youngsters are all plug n play.

Well for what its worth, I usually tip the lights and give a few beeps when I see other Alfa's in the road - unless they are driven by really old guys which I dont want to confuse, or really nice ladies and I'm with my wife !

The best comment I could get was:
-Your car has the same age as my granny....
Of course was a friend of mine, but I could slap his face...and I answered:
-if your granny would look like that, I would stay on top of her all the day long, like I do with my ''old 33''
