Golf GTI and a few Suds

Hmmm Recommend me shocks and tyres for my Sud?

Nice to see this place ticking over so well still. Have not posted here for a while but used to take the odd look in to see what was happening.

Been so busy with my other cars that my Alfasud had to take a back seat but now the sud (my only remaining Alfa) has been taken out of hibernation. Despite being a near perfect 1983 series 3 1.3Ti it has not got much use since I bought it in 2005. My other cars and other Alfa's ( I owned a total of 4 at one stage) seemed to capture my attention and available funds. It has received much attention in the past month though and happily for me seems to be in good condition still.

But I am considering changing the shocks and tyres all round. Its difficult to get original replacement shocks - in fact the motor factors here are saying they can't be got anymore.

this site lists performance shocks which it seems are the only ones available now?

Also what tyres would suit the sud. Its on ex Alfa 33 pepper pots?

Try Just Suds or Alfasud Parts Online for dampers - one or both of them may be able to get original, which will probably be best.

Tyres - if running 13 inch then anything but the most budget will be fine. And way better than the best available in 1983.

Can you not still get the Koni's for the Sud?

try Koni UK, give them a call rather than just take the website word for it, as they list the 33 and Sprint, and they are a recognised improvement over stock, very popular choice indeed if you can get them.

as for tyres, as above really, although i think you can make an educated selection if you know what you want from your tyres?

millions of miles and less grip, or less miles but loads of grip?

the choices will be endless, and on both subjects, it may be worth you looking up Kevjtd on here, a very experienced sud owner/restorer, and worked in the tyre trade until very recently for the best part of twenty years i think.

cheers

Are the Koni inserts for 33 and Sud front shocks the same? I can get sets of new front and rear Koni dampers for around 300 euro's in NL

Pretty sure sud and 33 front inserts are different. You also have to be aware that there are different sud inserts depending on the type of strut - Boge or Spica.
