You done some real surgery there mate.

Some look familiar. Need some time to answer.
First one looks like the alternator connection. The plastic connector with 3 prongs should attach to the voltage regulator, the other 2 spades go to the right bolt on the solenoid I believe. The 3rd (green) not sure.

3rd - ground connections on engine
4th pic spade looks like the solenoid activator.
5th- looks like the engine over heating sensor spade connector. attachement on the right head next to the filter.

9th - appear to be the coil connectors. connector with 2 spades is the earthing, you'll see 2 spades on the coil on one side, and 2 on the other for the positive spade connectos(green).
6th- looks like the oil pressure sensor spade connector

1st is alternator to starter the 3 prongs attache to the alternator is that the voltage regulator ???

3rd foto of the 3 black wires go to engine block? (ground connection)
4th foto is the solenoid activator that goes on the starter motor
5th goes near the oil filter and dipstick i know that one
9th connects to the coil (green are positive u say ) then black must be negative on the coil

second to last photo (one next to your sofa) is the plastic connector which attaches to the radiator fan I believe.

also brit on the positive battry lead i have an L shaped thick black wire where on the engine do i hook that up on the starter motor im guessing

well actually they are on the solenoid, one very thick one (positive - with a large round connector to be bolted on) and 2 medium thickness wires from the alternator which go on the right bolt of the solenoid as mentioned.

Have we missed anything?

1st is alternator to starter the 3 prongs attache to the alternator is that the voltage regulator ???
yep should be. It should fit nicely onto the alternator volt reg. Try it.

you've covered everything i can think off brit. Are there any wires that might be for the washer motor?

just my 5 pence worth, and I'm not an expert by any means, but i'd have thought you can work it all out with a simple continuity tester. anything that you can trace back to battery -ve terminal is earth, and anything that goes back to the +ve terminal is live, right?

once you know what's +ve and whats not, then i'd have thought you can chase the wires back to the fuse box to identify which system they are for?

A day, or even a whole week of evenings, playing with it has got to be better than $700

hard to make out anything else that brit hasn't already covered. pic 8 has the dizzy cable in the background, hard to make anything else out especially the non-standard added on ones.

is the last picture the whole under bonnet loom?

if so the long sheathed cable in the bottom left looks like the reverse lamp wire

as mentioned above, a continuity tester will help pinpoint where each wire ends up at but laying it all out on the engine helps as there is only a certain radious that wires will comfortably reach to.

that's true - reverse light sensor will have 2 spade connectors, also the rad fan sender, both paired together.

something like this is all you need, handy tool as you get voltage tester too so can check abttery/charging etc. handy for wiring up radios etc too

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIGITAL-LC...item3372dc31b5

the continuity setting simply works like this.

connect one wire from your tester to the wire on your loom that your not sure what it connects to then try the other tester wire touching the other end of the loom where you may have a big relay connection, or a block connector to the ecu etc. when you touch the correct wire you get a buzzing sound from the tester to say you've found the other end of the wire and can then know where it goes to.

also helps when finding if a wire is a neg or pos lead.

yep could be the solenoid not pushing out the engaging gear. This is spring loaded and can get stuck.
try giving it a good tap.
If not then it will need to be cleaned out or even replaced.
I replaced mine recently. 25 USD or so.

maybe this helps.
small tube going to top of rad.
other tube at back joins T connector
larger tube goes below and attaches to other T connector which joins the car heater and union joint left side of block as shown in a previous picture I posted.
