Aircon from a 33 to a sprint.

Hi all,
I have just bought a 1.7 33qv. I've picked it up for next to nothing and the plan is to start using it in a local sprint series. It needs a bit of work doing to it first, but what i did notice is that it has been fitted with a Alfa aircon unit but it had been done in a dealer over here in New Zealand. Obviosly this will be getting pulled out. As my fiance has a 88 sprint I was wondering if anyone has fitted a aircon from a 33 into a sprint? As the cars are basiclly the same I'm thinking it would be a straight swap, but i could be wrong.

Thanks Aaron

The problem is not the machinery itself but the peripherals , like a/c airways.... You will have to find a way to bring the cold air inside the car , possibly to modify the dashboard also...

I'll try and get out today and see if i can hook something up, maybe be to push the air down the back of the dash into the footwells. Lets face it compared to modern cars the sprint has a lot of room behind the dash. I might even look to getting the central locking put in the sprint too.

I started this project to build a cheap car for the track, but now I'm pimping the other halfs car.

So long as the cold air trickles into the car somewhere (regardless of where you tell it to go) it'll be no worse than a 33's standard ventilation.

What I wanna know is where you found a fiance with an '88 Sprint!

I think it would be relatively straight forward to fit, although a lot of work, depending how the evaporator was fitted into the existing 33 air box. I cant remember but can you remove the airbox from the Sprint through the engine compartment? - it could be simple to fit the evaporator inside the airbox next to the hot air radiator.

Hose runs could be tough as they would need to go through the bulkhead

Re: Aircon from a 33 to a sprint.

the 33 airbox is much larger than the one in the sprint/sud. No room for an evaporator and a radiator, unless they were really thin. I'd be looking at plentiful local car setup (Corolla) and seeing if 'bits' can be retrofitted.
