I love my 33 !

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has ever thought about selling their Alfa then had a drive and changed their minds??

At 22 I pay over £200 a month for the insurance on my 33 which after rent and bills and everything leaves me with not a lot...

My family keep telling me to sell it and I know financially I should but...

...as soon as I get in and start her up I get a big smile on my face!

Love the constant growl everywhere we go and the roar when I floor it!

I t-cutted her yest and now she gleams like she was new!

Noticed I got a lot more looks driving to work today after the t-cut and I'll post some pics up at the wknd.

Anyway just thought I'd post to say I love my Alfa 33!!

Re: I love my 33 !

Mine is doin my head in at the moment and Ive often thought of getting rid and buying something different. but I'll never get back what I've put in and there aren't that many about so I know I'd regret the sale. Plus whenever I get it going long enough to give it a proper run I end up with a big smile

Re: I love my 33 !

hi matty, a dilema that one
i had a similar problem back in the mid 80's when i got close to buying a sud and a sprint, but insurance costs were too much after a few years of all sorts of boring cars like an allegro , mk1 fiesta, mk2 escort, etc i ended up with a lancia delta 1.5 which was my first taste of italian motoring pretty much kept with lancia until a couple of years ago when i got a 156.

one thing i will say matty, if you can struggle through then keep it. you will 100% regret it in later life

do you do much mileage with it? i guess it is a daily runner? just i know from my old sprint that a classic/limited milage policy from the likes of adrian flux works out pretty good. would it even work out cheaper to get a cheap runabout for work? i know it sounds extreme but so does spending £2.5k on insurance less than £500 maybe for a classic insurance (my sprint was around £125, but then i am pushing 40 on a 3000 mile limted policy) should leave room to insure soemthing cheap to do the daily slog, cheaper to run, moped maybe? and then when you do get to drive the 33 it will seem so much better and it will save damaging the 33 like the other week just an idea

I think that 33's are just fantastic. (oddly I did own about 20 of them for various reasons - broken for parts etc!)

Just great, easy cars - wouldn't mind buying back my track day one that I sold last year. Oh, well!

Have fun with it...........

Re: I love my 33 !

Hi,
I know what you mean, I've had a couple of 33's - they're great arent they? I'm driving a 155 at the moment, don't like the new!!! stuff - 156, 159, etc!! 33's make you drive a car, they want to be pushed and they respond. I miss my 33's, had 2 at the same time and with 3 years age difference between them they had totally different engine management but boy! did they drive (kart response). I'm getting on now (61) but still know how to drive and if I wanted a drivers car then I would love a good 33. I had a 1.5ti Sud (bought it for my wife Ha, Ha.) brilliant car!! but I reckon a good 33 is the best.

Re: I love my 33 !

Hi Alex I meant £2400 a year!! Where are you getting your policy from??

DJH - I love the 155's too and think thats definitely on my list of cars to buy in the future! I also prefer the older cars too as opposed to 159, Brera etc and I know what you mean about the kart handling its great!

Edward - I know your going to own another 33 before your time is up !!

I know what you mean Kev but I just couldn't imagine driving anything else but my Alfa...I know it sounds stupid but I the money doesn't mean anything to me - its the Alfa that does and is worth every penny !! Thanks for the suggestion though, maybe when I bang my head I'll think more about doing that !

Fluffyduff I know exactly how you feel - Mine has got to be 1 of a few red cloverleafs and I don't doubt mine is in the best condition having spent most of its life abroad !!

Never seen a 33 in metallic grey Pat, bet it looked stunning!

Thanks for the replys

Re: I love my 33 !

Keep the car. Ditch the insurer. Shop around. There's got to be something better out there.

Great to hear some enthusiasm. I've my 33 for just a few months now and am loving every minute of it.

Re: I love my 33 !

I don't think my 33s cost me much more than I would spend on any other car. I bought a thermostat and two strut pan bearings on the way to work this morning, but I swear I don't do that every day!
And my black 33 will be lucky to break 400kms from this tank of fuel, but, um, it's a small tank and I'm using the spare tire which is quite out of balance..

Not if it's anything like mine - the metallic grey hasn't lasted, the clear coat comes off, the paint washes away and it looks awful.
But here are some shots that hide the bad parts:

Since those photos were taken, I've put teledial alloys on the car but the armourall has long since washed off the plastic trim.

"When there's a new Alfa, sales are very good at first," said the company's Italian spokesman, "but people don't come back for another one."

Skodas & Landys

Re: I love my 33 !

Know how you feel,

Regretted selling the Sprint Veloce - especially when the bloke I sold it to put it into the back of a truck!; regretted selling the Sud Green Cloverleaf that I sold the sprint to get, though happy to see its still in good nick and going strong (see anyone got my old Sud thread); regretted selling the 33 Veloce Sportwagon (black and mean looking even in standard factory trim); regretted selling the 164 V6 Lusso we traded the 33 in for - went to a good home, but I gather it suffered after white van man parked in the side of it; regretted selling the 1959 Series II and the early 110 V8 Land-rovers that followed it.

Now I have utterly reliable & economical skoda's (the VRS is also lots of fun) and an old LR-Disco - slightly less reliable & economical . So having striven to achieve this easy and relatively trouble-free motoring life, I find something is missing - I know, a quirky sometimes troublesome Alfa that drives you to the point of selling, but then teases you back from the brink, winks at you and encourages you to put more time effort & money into it so you can't let go.

Great though the Skoda's have been I don't think they will tear at the heartstrings the way my old Alfa's and classic landies did.

Keep it, but you've got to sort out that insurance!

cheers

bluesuit

Missing the boxer!
