Re: Sprint Green Cloverleaf on Ebay

I'm the proud new owner of this Sprint and it really is as good as it looks.

Steve's looked after it well and done a few mods to it so the master plan for me is to make it A1 and preserve it. I'm planning to strip off all the running gear, clean, blast and paint it all, replace any bushing etc.

The interior's in fantastic condition as is the bodywork and paint so there's not really that much to do to get it A1.

It's been 20+ years since I last owned / drove a Sud Sprint but 2 minutes driving this one and I was hooked again.

I use the Brera as an everyday car and I love it. However I think from a purely driving experience viewpoint the Sprint has got bags more "Cuore Sportivo" than the Brera. The character of the Sprint is unmistakably Alfa. The build quality of the Brera is obviously better but the designs are 30 years apart so that's no surprise.

If someone blindfolded you then took you for a run in the Sprint you'd know almost immediately you were in an Alfa whereas a run in the Brera would probably leave you guessing.

Both great cars for different reasons ..... delighted to have both of them.

Will post some pics at the weekend.

Hi GT Coop

I too have a wee sprint which like yours doesn't need much doing to get it A1. Could you keep me posted with your progress as I am curious as these common faults and cures too.
I love mine too, but wife hates it. This one is my stepping stone to an old spider . . . . . . .I hope!!

No problem Scott. I live about 10 miles from you so once I get started on it you're welcome to come and have a nosy at it. Would be great to see your Sprint too and make a comparison on what needs done to each car.

I'll PM you in the next week or so.

Cheers

Beautiful My very first Alfa (1.5 tho of course) - you can understand why I got hooked. The first time I'd ever been on a test drive where the salesman told me to wind the window down and listen to the exhaust note!

Keep her and treasure her.

Cheers,

Nigel

Looking for a twin tailpipe rear silencer if you've got a good one ?

Only other parts I could be doing with is an outer headlamp and a decent steering wheel. The leather covering on mine's a bit hacked up.

I've started stripping the underside of the Sprint and I'm surprised at the great condition of the bodywork (so far). Was expecting to find some tin worm under the flaking underseal but it's all very solid.

Only dodgy bit I found so far is a small patch around the steel bung in the bottom of the spare wheel well which was very rusty. I've cut this section out with a dremmel and mig welded in a new section and it's fine.

Manged to get a hold of another 1.7 engine so I'm planning to do a full rebuild on it and swap it over. The one in the car has suddenly developed an unhealth knock like it's dropped a valve or spun a bearing ? I can't understand it because it was running perfectly when I got the car and in a space of 40-50 miles of spirited driving it's went into self distruct mode. Not too bothered as I was going to pull the engine and rebuild it anyway although perhaps not quite this soon after buying it.

This is my 14th Alfa so I've had plenty of experience in expecting the unexpected !

nice start to sprint ownership bet your pleased it's better than expected someone may have just bunged a set of big-end shells in to 'get rid' quick, does it look like the sump has been off recently? or maybe it has been stood a while? either way suppose it doesn't matter too much as you have better plans keep us up to date

Re: Sprint Green Cloverleaf on Ebay

Only got a single pipe silencer I'm afraid. Same as on mine.
Will try to pop out with the car in the next few days if that's OK. Would love to see yours and maybe work in tandem on the various bits that need doing??

Bad news on the engine front but at least you had planned on a replacement anyway!
