Re: how many suds on this site

Hi,
I have 1985 Alfasud Hatch 1.5 (full opening hatch)
fitted with a 1.5 twin carb motor build by dawie.
We had this car in the family since new!
Its 'Ivory' in colour (cream).
Will post some pics later.

How do I post a pic in the thumbnail form?

Well Happy Re: how many suds on this site

Hi DNA:
I see your motor was built by Dawie. Is he reasonable with his prices? I was also wondering where you source spares for your Alfa these days? We used to have companies like TAK Motors where the spares were dirt cheap, but i believe they are no more. Last i paid over R800 just for a [1 - not a pair] brake disc from Midas. What type of milage do you have on the motor since it was built? Mine has never been worked on since it was bought new, but is getting tired and appears to have sump compression. Got a quote at Autozone on engine spares to rebuild the motor, and looking just at the cost price of the spares, would have cost more than the price i paid for the car.

Dawie is not cheap but I have a lot of trust in his work!
I brought this motor complete from him with oversized pistons for around R 8000.
Sud spares are scares and expensive these days.
The car have gotten under 100km on the new engine,
will start driving a bit towards the end of this month.
Dawie have build a few V6's and 2.0 Twin Spark 16V's for us,
all of them ran better than expected!

Thank you Pat & Mark. She is definitely photogenic.
It cost me about £900 to have her shipped over and another £600 or so in import taxes and costs.
I might well be mad but at least I ended up my Sprint instead of some shed that I didn't know the history of.
Anyway it was all part of the emmigrating experience.

Still, cost me less money than shipping the cat over but that wasn't my choice. The wife and kids decided that one !

the cat should have had an 'accident' then you could have taken 2 sprints over
lot of money to ship it, but i can fully see why you did it. mines a heap at the moment but i can see the day when i just wouldn't seel it for any money
bet your sprints liking the nice warm weather now

Re: how many suds on this site

To be honest, it needs a bit of work to get it set up again.
During the summer it struggled a bit when the ambient got over 30deg C. The carbs didn't seem too happy. I'm guessing the K&N's weren't giving enough 'cool' air. I need to sort out some ducting from the grill. But when the air is so hot outside it's a bit of a losing battle.

There's not much I've missed about the UK since we moved over, but blasting down the country lanes on a crisp dry spring morning is one of them.
At least Oz doesn't have salt on the roads...

Re: how many suds on this site

I remember seeing a new silver Alfasud 1.2ti parked outside some huge house off Regents Park in about 1976...never forgotten how smart it looked in a road of Hilman Hunters and Morris Marinas.

Happy days.
