Re: new steering wheel

Thats the same as what i have on mine exept the black bit on mine hasnt been removed. I was thinking of doing that and now i've seen what it looks like, i will do it. I will also try removing the dark varnish and replacing it with a lighter shade to look like silver birch, to match my silver paint.

Re: new steering wheel

It's OK.. Good choice if you need a smaller steering wheel than the standard one, although otherwise I quite like the standard wheel in a Sud or Sprint.
I changed my 33's steering wheel because the original wheel got gooey in damp weather, and I wanted the smaller size and slight dishing to give me more room for my knees. I don't have to sit like an Italian now!

It was one of the cheapest ones that my local auto parts supplier had. I think the brand is Sportline or something. Apart from its shape I chose it because it was the only design which suited older cars. The rest were awful boy racer types with chrome, bright coloured coverings etc.

Re: new steering wheel

picked up my steering wheel today and its lovely cannot wait to put it on the sud ,there is a little bit of wear on the varnish not sure how to repair that do i scrape the varnish off and sand the wood then revarnish or is it best left to a expert to do it or leave it as is so it looks a bit more classic.

Beware that it might not be that easy to remove the factory steering wheel.
I broke my factory wheel right off its mounting bracket but the bracket wouldn't budge. In the picture you can see I tied and bolted (and vise-gripped) a gear puller to the bracket. I tightened this gear puller up until its shaft started to bend, then I hit the bracket from behind with a chisel and heavy hammer until it finally came free!
