Pat

It is a nice looking example - it's the same as mine and as far as i know the twin carb engine was standard for this model, but you are right about the other bits

cheers

Re: a nice little gold cloverleaf sud on ebay

Hi Pat

I don't think I will be doing any Alfa events this year , and as i've got so many other things that take priority over the car, progress has come to a standstill at the moment.

What i need to do is make a list of what needs doing to the car, then gradually 'tick' them off as they get done. My main aim is to get some welding done as i now have a welder, but as i've not done any welding before i seem to be putting it off

will post some photos when i get anything done

would also love to see some photos of any Suds that are at the event on Sunday

cheers

Matt.K

its easy Matt, it just takes practise

gets lots of scrap bits of metal to practise welding together,
before you go anywhere near the car

And Yes
pics please everyone who`s going

I'll second that, just take your time and pratice. I taught myself and my current Sud is only the second thing I've welded, only started last year. I'd suggest starting on bits that aren't visible as well.

There is a very good guide here:

Re: a nice little gold cloverleaf sud on ebay

The headlights don't look right to me though I am well aware that this model did not have a four headlamp system. I'm sure that the engine is correct and if you are lucky, the downdraughts will be Dell'Orto DHRLAs! They are far more suited to the boxer engine than Webers due to better progression.

It looks as if there might have been some "bodywork" in suspect areas with overspray visible in some areas. Wheels valued at £350 seems optimistic when you can get a good set of Speedlines for 155s or 156s for £250.

It could be a South African import however - if you are very lucky!

Good luck if you bid.

Oh for a set of vented discs!

AntMat

It's wierd, the square headlights on the s3 never look right to me . I think its something to do with the way the bonnet sits over them?!?!? - it makes the front look 'lop-sided'??

But unless you can get good ones, is it worth doing the 'twinny' replacement?? - tho' i do think the twin headlights look MUCH better!!

Mine had the dellortos on the 1.5 engine (36's), which were great and i still have them on the 1.7 replacement (40's), which is double great!!
took her out today and she was flying - - whoooo hooo!!!

happy days

cheers

Matt

Re: a nice little gold cloverleaf sud on ebay

Gold Cloverleafs all had the 95 bhp twin carburettor engine. Even in 1983 they were regarded as a bit chintzy but Alfa sold a few. They were the Suds last breath before the 33 took over.

Re: a nice little gold cloverleaf sud on ebay

if it is clean as it says it is that is a bargain price and well worth the money.
it would make a great investment as suds are getting rarer and they will only go up in price ,when was the last time you saw one on the road.
when my brother was driving our sud tix back from essex loads of people were looking at it .
