1.7 16V to 1.9 16V conversion on sprint 1988
hello everyone,
i have Alfa Sprint 88 with 1.7 16V implant with haltech EFI.
i want to stroke my engine to be 1.9, i am searching any previous conversions and
also E-shops to get parts from. i am from israel and here we cant get those parts within the country.
i am plannig to enlarge my pistons to 101MM and by implanting sleevs

You cannot go to 101mm bore - impossible with a standard block.
You would be far better off doing a turbo conversion - much much cheaper as this is what i plan to do to mine next year.

Plus you also need to budget for a lot of gearbox work to strengthen it.
The std gearbox fails in a number of expensive ways when you put a lot of power or torque through it.

Re: 1.7 16V to 1.9 16V conversion on sprint 1988
Hi there Yotam,
The 101mm bore might be a bit ambitious. One guy over here went out to 91mm bore and got a few more cc out of his 16v race engine. It went like a rocket for a while and the engine died with cracking on the cylinder walls & block. There just wasn't enough "meat" there to hold together with the cylinder walls being thinned out and a lot of extra pressure, rpm etc
You'll need to engineer the job very carefully.
Good luck !

why not chuck a super charger off a mini cooper s on top of the engine. Apparently its been done before quite easily (my mechanic has seen one) That should bump the power up a bit

Re: 1.7 16V to 1.9 16V conversion on sprint 1988
hello guys, i am very sorry i got mixed up, i ment 91MM BORE,
what i want also to note that there is a 102MM between cylinders.
i am going to implant sleeves! by over grinding the original bore and then get 91MM piston to fit to the 91MM sleeve.
my only question is from where can i get the pistons and even connecting rods that are forged and will fit for this project?
i want to answer to all the "non-atmospheric" methoods -
i got in my friend's garage a vw corrado with 20VT gt35/40 with about 480 HP, daily driven, when i want to get some boost i ride with that, i enjoy the fact that i tunned it fully with street aprouch and it rides like hell.
but it is a vw, not alfa,
i feel that my sprint was made to be atmospheric, non boost aplications and such.

Has anyone fitted a Subaru 2.0 Turbo engine and box into one of these? Given how strong and cheap they are, it's probably the way to go.

Go on the JE website and deal with them direct. They will make you a set of one-offs to your own design. Alternatively once you speak to them they will probably have made it before. I managed to get a set of pistons with virtually all the options for 20% less than I could get a std set in the UK.

Re: 1.7 16V to 1.9 16V conversion on sprint 1988
I had JE pistons in my 33 track car. The engine capacity was about 1870 from memory. Can't remember the exact measurement for piston diameter. Just contact JE and they will do it all for you. Mine were a work of art I have to say. Took about 6 weeks to arrive.
