Sud Sprint Racer
Hi I just thought I would let everyone know I have finallymanaged to get my Sud Sprint ready for Mallory on Sunday 25 May. I am racing in the future classics race which is 40 mins long. There are 2 other Alfas,a 1700 sprint and a 3.0l 75. My Sprint is a 1500 unit built by Brunswick and revs to 8000. Max power today on rollers showed 170 bhp @ 7800. not bad for an 8 valver. I know the rolling road is not the most accurate but it should still be quick.Look forward to seeing anyone on Sunday. My race no is 88. Cheers Mike Watson

Re: Sud Sprint Racer
Hi just to let everyone know how I got on. Qualified 5th overall in wet with the 3.0l Alfa 75 along side me at 6th.Unfortunatley I managed to clip another car when I locked up at the hairpin. My fault entirely. My mechanic Brian managed to patch the car up and the scrutineer passed it safe to race. I got boxed in at start and lost about 5 places. As the race was 40mins long I didnt worry and gradually picked up places. the only problem was as I came out of the pits after the compulsary stop I caught the safety car and this cost me over 1/2 lap. In the end I finished 5th only 22 seconds behind the lead car. I am know looking for a near side wing, bonnet, grill and lights. mike

Re: Sud Sprint Racer
Mike
I saw you race at the Rockingham meeting and you went very well, there. I used to have a road Sprint & still have a massive soft spot for them. I have a race 33 myself, the ex Roger Donnan car, a good handling car although it's looking second hand now after some panel damage at Brands earlier in the year. I use it in the "Tin Tops" series by the same club, CSCC.
Why not race the Sprint in Tin Tops rather than Future Classics? There would be more people to race with in an "up to 1600" class, inluding myself and, usually another Sud. The Sprint would be eligible for "Tin Tops" in the same way that Honda CRX' have raced in Tin Tops in the past.
Race in both series!!
I am at Anglesey this weekend.

Re: Sud Sprint Racer
Hi Andy, will not be going to Anglesey as Sud not ready yet. I know the 33 you now have and have raced against it in the past.I was in my Cosworth at Rockingham and finished 3rd overall. The yellow Sprint was the Bates family car and they ran very well. mine is red. hope to see you soon. Mike

Re: Sud Sprint Racer
The more Alfas the better. Sean Woodward also runs an 1800 33 in Class B of Tin Tops & there have been one or two 156' out in the past. Steven Griffin also runs an GTV6 in Future Classics.
The CSCC Tin Tops series is good for Boxer engined Alfas as 1500cc cars are no longer competitive, i think, in the ARCA series. In ARCA Class D - The production Class - everyone seems to run 1700 8v or 16v cars whilst if people run Boxer engined cars in the modified classes they seem to be very highly modified 1800cc cars.
Tin Tops has an up to 1600cc 2 valve per cylinder (or up to 1300 4 valve per cylinder) class which means 1500cc Suds, Sprints & 33s can have a good place to race. Tin Tops also has an upto 1300cc Class which is poorly supported at the minute but if anyone ahs a 1300cc race car, come and play.

Re: Sud Sprint Racer
Are engine mods allowed?
If so perhaps someone else can try the 80mm (1286cc) route with the 16valve heads?
