Small DYI on Sprint.....

Well , since i am about to start making small changes on my sprint since i dont have to do a full restoration i think it is a nice chance to create a thread of thinks we all can do to our cars.

Well , first think was that i replaced the original airbox with one of a 33 QV. The advantage is that the iron fence stays on the box and not on the removable metal cover so even if we remove it there is small protection against rubbish..... as for the cover i painted using red color which was heat resisant . Before that i used 600 & 800 sandpaper to grid it and the final result was guite impressive:

Air box Panted

As for the air intake i bought one 65mm ventilation tube from a shop that had industrial products which was quite cheap. It was a perfect fit on the one mounting point end and needed only a small modification to the airbox :

Air Intake industrial Tube

Also in order to increase the ammount of air i removed the cover on the intake mount behind the grill:

Removed air intake protection cover

I also started polishing all the metal and aluminum parts in the engine room. I used a soap that it is used to polish metal and aluminums which is quite cheap. The procedure is quite good and here are the first tests on the water cap and on the magneti marelli restrictor:

Polisted Water cap
Polished Magneti mareli

if someone else has something similar is free to post it here...

Hey Greek, to stop your paint from chipping, you could put some clear rubber underneath the clamps

Re: Small DYI on Sprint.....

Something I did on my rallycars which were both white was to do around the top of the door frome satin black. It makes the car look longer and consequently lower.

Re: Small DYI on Sprint.....

Thanks RSFruitbat.....You mean the door frame or to the top of the car?
In my plans is to paint also the door frame black mat since it is white now and refresh the black color to the covers and the plastic trims......

Re: Small DYI on Sprint.....

Thanks but i have the feeling that the Group N muffler was much better regarding performance and sound so i dont think it is going to be there for long. I will try and make a removable system like installing plates on the last section so i can bolt both mufflkers at will and not cutting and melting all the time....

Re: Small DYI on Sprint.....

Because changing the central mufller it will increase the dDB of noise which is something i dont want . Also , the exhaust system on the boxer engine is very well desgnined and when you mess with it in most cases it will not make any good. Already the middle muffler is very free and the final muffler from a group Nis is creating great pressure at the exhaust that bennefits the engine. For example i can feel the pressure of the gas 3-4 feet away form the group N tailpipe whick i dont feel with the dual muffler...

Re: Small DYI on Sprint.....

Ok , i have just bought a rear axel with disk brakes from a 33 along with high pressure brake lines and rear antiroll bar. Soon i will post the procedure of replacing rear drums and the installation of the bar.

I want to ask something regardind seats if anyone knows. Since my seats are fade from the sun and trimmed i want to install other. I am thinking those from a 33 preferably 16v (Recaro). My only concern is that those from 33 cannot be reclined. I am wondering if i can dismandle the mechanism from the sprint seats and place it on those on 33 or something like that..... Otherwise i will use seats from a GTV with small mods...

Re: Small DYI on Sprint.....

Hi Greek
I've fitted 146 reclining seats into my Sprint - went in easily but needed two holes drilling for slightly different width between the runners. They dont fold forwards tho - but how often do they need too??

Re: Small DYI on Sprint.....

ones from a 145 should be made to fit easily enough, the green clover leaf ones look pretty good too and have the bonus of the alfa emblem on them plus of course they will tilt forward to allow passengers to get in the back

Re: Small DYI on Sprint.....

As part of the upgrade of my sprint i found a rear axel from a 16v 33 with rear disks. It is a direct install , pretty easy to performm. Currently i am painting it to prevent rust and give her a bnicer look. Also calipers are painted red with a can with red thermo paint and they look great...
Some pictures of the rear axel along with the handmade antiroll bar (with yellow/orange color)..

Re: Small DYI on Sprint.....

Good luck with the installation - how will you connect the hand brake, those cables look shorter than Sprint ones??
