How easy is it to convert a 1.7 QV injection car to dual carbs.?

Re: Ok Injection-carb question

Hi!
I did the opposite...I had a carbed engine and an 33 IMOLA ie body. I went for the injection and got out the webers (God, I miss those webers ).
This was not so easy in my case as I had to swap the back of the engine where the distributor and oil pump is with the one from the ie engine that uses a double coil, a sensor and indentation on the flywheel to get the Spark.
this is only in the Imola Version.
Hope it helps...

Best,

Re: Ok Injection-carb question

Thanks for the reply.............basically I am buiulding a 550 spyder and want to use a 1.7 alfa engine (I have fond memories of my alfa powered beetle) However, I thaught it would be easier finding a dual carbed model car, but im only finding 1.7 IE and the odd 16 Valve. Dont like electronics so iff I have to get one with injection and a brain, want to retro fit it with carbs and a simple distributor

Re: Ok Injection-carb question

that depends if you find a motronic 1.7ie or an L-jetronic 1.7ie

you'll have to use a low-pressure electric fuelpump, because the hole in the block used for the mechanical pump on carbed 33's is blanked.
with a motronic engine you will also have to change the backplate of the engine because there's no hole in it for the distributor

there's also a difference in the cams and compressionratio if i'm correct, so you'd better try harder to source a carbed engine

I'm not sure...since I'm using the same block and heads from the carbed one...everything worked fine until now I only changed the rear of the engine and the flywheel.
Anyway, mine is a 1.3 engine and I don't know about the 1.7.

Re: Ok Injection-carb question

Do you need the whole car? I may be able to find the engine, carbs etc for you up here in Germany.

Re: Ok Injection-carb question

i fitted a 1.7ie engine into my sud a couple of years ago. i retained the original carb set up without any problems at all, remove the bung where the dizzy fits, fit an electric fuel pump and regulator and your away... there was nothing major involved at all, quite a fun job actually and it started first click too

good luck with which ever way you choose

Re: Ok Injection-carb question

What part of Austria are you in? There are a few 33's on EBay right now that are in the southeast corner of Germany. Check mobile.de also. I will talk to my Alfa guy here to see if he knows where any cars are for cheap. I would think all you would need was the correct kabel baum, the carbs and the distrubutor.
