33 1.7 IE tech help needed please.

33 1.7 IE Passenger side electric window not working/ any ideas?

Firstly is there a fuse for the electric windows? its not listed in the hand book.

I thought it may be a common problem so any ideas as to where to start.
The drivers side works but the passengers side wont open from either switch (there is a switch for the pass side on the drivers switch).

Another problem i have is the bonnet suddenly wont close on the catch, i have messed about for 20 mins making sure the cable isn't to tight etc... i must have slammed it 10 times and it wont close properly... it looks to line up with the catch OK.

Thanks.

Ash.

Hey Ash.

Cant help on the bonnet issue but ive had loads of trouble with the electric windows.

Take the card off the door and in the bottom of the door you should see a connector (its blue on mine). check this one as it gave me no end of trouble. also check the contacts in the plugs connecting to the back of the switch. they can spread over time.

If the drivers works then the fuses etc are ok (dont ask me which ones they are )

If you check the connectors both in the doors and at the back of both switches you should be able to get it going again

Frank

edit: is the little plastic backup cable on the bonnet loose too?

i had some trouble with my drivers side the other day, i could here the motor going but the window wouldn't go down, turns out being italians they only glued the window to its holder and it had broken free, wacked a load of scilicone in there and left it up for a day and hey prestow, its fine again.

Re: 33 1.7 IE tech help needed please.

Thanks to Fluffyduff and Ross for your help .

I have checked the connectors on the switch and behind the door card and they seem OK. It looks like a previous owner has fixed a problem in the past because the wiring is messy, I've got two wires soldered into one and different coloured wires joined together so i had better take it to a mechanic as I'm out of my depth trying to sort it, but it was well worth checking so thanks for the advise.

I couldn't even fix the bonnet catch so again i will get the mechanic to look at this too.

These niggles are soon forgotten when driving the car though, i actually had a man in a Rover freelander try to race me off the lights in it yesterday... he was soon a spec in my rear view mirror .

Landrover freelander delusional drivers, aren't they special

At least you wont run the risk of having the bonnet flip up when your driving, unless of course you brake really hard which isnt gonna happen unless you do something with the standard setup (like throw it away and start again)

Shame it wasnt a quick fix for the windows. Electics on these can be such a pain when they start to play up

Re: 33 1.7 IE tech help needed please.

There is another weird thing the 33 does and other people have witnessed this not just me, when the car is sat on the drive with everything off it makes what i can only describe as a mooing sound , like an old electric motor or pump, it sounds like its coming from the back of the car?

It always starts OK and the battery seems to keep a good charge so it doesn't seem to affect anything its just a bit odd. Anyone else had this on their 33?

I had a nice Alfa Sprint Veloce Cloverleaf last year and it really was a good one, the guy i got it from spent £6000 a few years previously on sorting the rust on it. He sold it to me to buy.... a Landrover freelander!

Re: 33 1.7 IE tech help needed please.

We checked the window out at the garage today it turned out to be a dead motor on the passengers side so i need a new or good used motor.

Bonnet catch was an easy fix, the bracket that holds the catch had bent out of line so thats now sorted.

My brother said it must be the fan coming on thats making the mooing sound, it happens when the ignition is off so i don't think its the fuel pump but like you said Mark it is the only thing at the back that could make a noise like that so i must be wrong and the sound is coming from the front, i will look and see if the fans running next time i hear it.

Thanks for your help all .
