Bought another one !

I've bought another Sud. Found it on Autotrader and collected it yesterday. Only thing now is what to do with it. I bought it unseen expecting to use it for parts but it's really good. It's been sitting in a garage for about 8 years having had a very good quality respray. It's clearly been well restored and is far to good to break.

Having sat for a while there are a few bits that need doing, round the struts as usual and under the heater but things like the a pillars, bottom screen corners, bonnet tailgate etc are spot on. Just some small bits of rust just starting in one or two places.

So what to do finish it off - but I've got my other Sud to do as well and a couple of 105 series cars under restoration , break it - would be a shame, keep it and do it when I've finished the other one or sell it on ?

Lot of pictures here:

Re: Bought another one !

Hmmm....... It's definitely too good to break.

Park it somewhere warm and dry... and save it for a future restoration project.

You seem to have enough to do ATM

Re: Bought another one !

Can't bring myself to break it unless it's really rotton underneath so I'll have a good look over the weekend and see how solid it is but just keeping it until I'm ready to do it is my favourite option at the moment.

Need to go through the boot as it's full of bits and see what's missing next.

Re: Bought another one !

looks a lot better than mine
park it up and decide in the future when you need to, unless you wanted it for parts for your other sud does look too good to break though but the time comes for them all one day

Re: Bought another one !

Well definitely not going to break it. I've started working on it as there seems to be less to do than on my red one. Had a good look over it and it got little plugs all over it from Dinol rust treatment that I guess was done from new. It's clearly had some money spent on it as it's had sections in the bottoms of the door done very professionally and the sills have been done as well. Looks really solid underneath. Only problems are on the inner wings but even these aren't as bad as I thought. Most of the rust is surface rust where it's been welded and had seam sealer applied and then painted. Looks like some of the rust is just coming through the seam sealer so I've cleaned loads of it off then went a bit mad and starting cutting some of the old metal out:

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1478.jpg

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1485.jpg

Then the dog came to help:

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1482.jpg

Fitted two plates, not the neatest welding in the world but it'll do:

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1488.jpg

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1490.jpg

Really frustrating welding it though, would be going along nicely then suddenly blowing holes in the metal all the time. Remember my mate who's a professional welder getting really annoyed with my Suds years ago as he had the same problem, put it down to poor quality metal.

One more piece to do on top then there is a couple of bits that need doing on the inner wing from underneath, I'll need to take the strut out to do those. Then just the bit under the heater box, the other inner wing, get it running properly, bleed or replace the clutch hydraulics, put the interior back together................

It appears to be a TiX according to the badge on the back ! It's also got a body coloured grille so i assume it is even though the log book doesn't say TiX.

I've restored on GTV6 but that was over 10 years ago when you could still go to the dealer and buy some parts over the counter. I remember the guy at the Sheffield dealer was really helpful - managed to get us 2 brand new screeen pillars from Italy. They sent the wrong ones first but got there in the end ! Still got a few GTV/GTV6 odds and ends in the garage, got a mint set of inner headlights if you need them.
