Re: Bought another one !

My greatest regret was scrapping my Alfasud Ti Veloce (Posillipo blue), Series 3 but with a boot, 95BHP engine but lighter shell .
I can still see it coming back now from the bodyshop after some clot parked a Granada in the front of it. God how I loved that car . Sounds recent doesnt it? I actually scrapped the car in 1991 . 18yrs later and I still havent found a road car that I enjoy as much
Dont make the same mistake I did. You will regret it .
If it s too much too face now put it in a corner and go to Stanford hall on Sunday. Have a listen to a Sud , Maybe have a sit and a ride in one . At worst see if some one else will take it on. If you still then decide to scrap it go back to the top of this thread and read through again . Keep doing that until you change your mind.
When was buying an Alfa anything to do with your head and what is sensible ?
God I miss my Sud .

Re: Bought another one !

Having slept on it I decided to have another look today. Thanks for the positive suggestions as well, you're right at least this is all non visible and fairly accessible. Half an hour with the grinder and it looked like this !

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1545.jpg

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1546.jpg

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1547.jpg

Bottom the inner wing where it meets the sill is the worst. Had a look at the other bits and thought may as well go for it. So managed to get all this done today:

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1550.jpg

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1551.jpg

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1553.jpg

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1552.jpg

This was probably the trickiest bit so far..

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1555.jpg

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9...2/IMG_1556.jpg

Then finally etch primed. I'll shutz it all when I've finished I think to protect it properly.

Really pleased with how much I managed to get done. Did realise at one point I was welding in the rain though, thought it might be a good idea to stop at that point

Just the area under the heater box, bottom of the inner arch, a-post and suspension mount to go at them moment but I'm sure there'll be more - oh and the other Sud, the Giulia Super and GT Junior

1969 Giulia Super (in bits)
1970 1300 GT Junior (in bits)
And another Giulia Super but 1973 and in less bits !
And now a 1984 Sud TI
And now a 1982 Sud TiX - Ooops

Re: Bought another one !

I came very close. Still got the hard bits to do but hopefully I'll get some time tomorrow and weather permitting I'll be able to get a bit more done.

Should get inspiration from Alfa Day on Sunday !

Re: Bought another one !

Well done. You work at a terrific pace !! That little lot would have taken me a week, with numerous tea breaks, watching aircraft fly over and talking to the neighbours.
I also weld from both sides if possable to make sure everything is really solid.

I think I've gone past the point of no return now, I'm definitely going to save it especially now I've got it running as well. Started straight away, idles perfectly and sounds great.

Only problem then will be what to do with it, I'm in the middle of finishing my other Sud that's got a 1.7 in it and a few Giulias underway as well.

This was only meant to be a parts car

I'll get it finished and tested and then just take it from there I think but will probably have to sell it as it's currently living outside as the the garages are full of other Alfas and parts.

Re: Bought another one !

sure there will be plenty of people willing to finish the project off for you. if you got it roadworthy/mot'ed then it should sell easily, i would guess there are a few people who like the idea of finishing one off with all the detail work but would be scared of the serious welding work, which you would have completed my advice would be to get the structural done but ignore the details, such as interiors/paintwork/servicing etc and leave that for someone who wants an easy project

Re: Bought another one !

When I saw that inner wing, the pessimist in me said '******** to it' and scrap it. But very well done for getting stuck in. I wouldn't get involved in paint but would get it welded up, reassembled, Waxoyled and MOT'd and use it for a couple of weeks to get it in the mood again. Then sell it - you'll get a grand for it (if not more), thus saving another Spud and some funds to complete the other one.
I'm very sorry to say that I have scrapped far better Suds than that one. That was a long time ago - do I regret it? You bet.

I had a brown TiX, UPH425X, last seen in Cheltenham around 10 years ago. That one had new wings but it was a very solid car. There were still a few decent ones about in 1990.
