33 Big brake Conversion

Hi all.

I have a sprint fitted with 33 front suspension. I want to do a brake upgrade and wondered what experience other users have. My first thoughts were to use the disks and calipers from a 145. Has anyone else tried this?

Re: 33 Big brake Conversion

Use those from a 33 16V. It is a direct fit and looks very nice. Also you can use the rear axel fron a 16v and this way you have rear disks and handbrake. You can also upgrade the perfromance by manufacturing iron brake tubes in a machinery. I will make mine along with front 16v calipers to replace those in my sprint. Before that i will have the disks machined and drilled for better look....

Alfa 33 16V brakes and iron tubing is the cheapest ugrade and just enough for some moderate "racing"
This is how it looks on a 33 1.5IE http://www4.slikomat.com/08/0421/z5q-DSC025.jpg

Re: 33 Big brake Conversion

The 16v front calipers are the same as the 1.7 Sprint and I didnt find them to be particularly good - 239mm discs.

I used discs from the 2.0 164 which has 257mm discs - there is a thread here about it somewhere.

Also its possible to fit GTA 4 pot calipers if you want really good brakes

For a sprint they are good and with the steel tubes they are better.

Re: 33 Big brake Conversion

The car already has 33 16v disks and calipers. I wanted something from a heavier car that could probably handle a bit more heat, for track days.
I like the idea of the 164 or GTA brakes, but wouldn't this be a 5 stud fitment? or are 2.0 164's 4 stud?
I don't mind machining mounting brackets for the calipers, but I'm not keen on having to do anything to disks as this will make replacing them a pain.

Re: 33 Big brake Conversion

Hi Rob
As Pascs has posted there is a lot of good info on the threads - and welcome to the AO and Sud/Sprint/33 section we are a friendly, somewhat irreverent crew, it seems

Re: 33 Big brake Conversion

I am running a 315x28mm disc with GTA 4-piston Brembo calipers on my Sprint with amazing results! If your interested take a look at my website as i have some pics one there. This company does large race discs and bells for the 33.
