33 Windscreen Replacement?

Has anyone had any experience with getting the screen on a 33 (or sud/sprint for that matter)replaced etc?

Mine's was in a pretty sorry state anyway but on the way back from the NCT centre this morning I noticed that a small chip in the top corner of the screen has stated to crack.

i had mine replaced the other day by national mobile windscreens, he said it was the first they had ever done but he seems to have done a good job. cost about £128 plus vat.dnt try it yourself it would take hours.

Re: 33 Windscreen Replacement?

#thanks for the responses guys.
Theres no way i'd attempt to fit the screen myself as its a bonded screen.
They reckon they need 3 days to get a screen and it'll be €280 to supply and fit. Turns out my current insurers are a complete shower and they have applied a 350 excess to my policy because of the age of the car and this applies to glass replacement too so i have to leave it till payday now.

12 months ago i replaced the screen on the leon and didnt pay a penny

Ill give a full update once i have them fit the screen

Re: 33 Windscreen Replacement?

Well the saga continues.

the tech cracked the screen on tuesday putting it in. Fair enough i know it can happen. i wasn't there so the other half gave him access to the car and took the details etc. no problem.

Got home from work to take a look at the damage only to find out that while the screen was cracked, it wasnt sealed at all on the passenger side and you could push the screen out with minimal pressure

Rang the glass centre, told the guy that i had to get the car into a garage as it wasnt water tight and that i needed to change the address for the replacement screen. When i gave him this info, he said he would send someone down on wednesday to seal it for me until the new screen could be fitted but that it would leave the car driveable at least.

Guy arrives on wednesday, takes one look at the screen, walks away on the phone to his boss, came but and tells me in a roundabout way that the first guy made a hash of it and that the whole screen would need to come out to be re-sealed (no point as its cracked anyay). They'd put a rush on it and call me on friday to let me kow what time they'd be here at. Excellent I thought, at least they're working on it.

Got a call this morning. Screen wont be available till tuesday so my car's under a cover and isn't driveable till then.

What a mess. I know that they're trying their best and if im honest, i cant fault the guys ive been dealing with since they found out about the problem but its seriously frustrating. It would seem that the first guy used the wrong trim (a bigger one than original) initially and broked the screen trying to force it to seal, then walked away from it once it cracked. I'd be rightly stuffed if it was my only means of transport.

Final update (hopefully) on tuesday when they (hopefully) fit the new screen (successfuly)

Re: 33 Windscreen Replacement?

Well i thought that at least replacing screen on sprint is easy since it is not fixed but only with rubber which is easy to remove using a string.

Re: 33 Windscreen Replacement?

Well there was a happy ending eventually. Id recommend autoglass again but in hindsight I'd make sure I was there for the fitting and that the original rubber off the old windscreen was reused. It would have saved all the hassle and delays.
