Thanks Sixnut - you were reminded of all those DeTomaso Pantera publicity pictures from the 1970's perhaps?

I saw the drive was empty and simply couldn't resist - I drove out of the exit and then came back in through the entrance

Re: Alfasud meet MITCAR

I always fancied one of the kit Nova's when I was young. Either that or one of the Eagle SS's. Preference was for the Nova though. I can remember reading an article about one where it said the car had been fitted with the drive mechanism off a hood for some big yank tank. The idea being that if he put it on its roof there was enough power to still drive the hood open and lift the car up in the process
I dont think I'd have been planning to put its on its roof but I suppose there is no harm in covering all the bases.

Re: Alfasud meet MITCAR

Hehe - yes, that was the Cadillac Eldorado convertible hood system. My car originally had that, but it was only designed to lift a fabric top so wasn't very powerful. The pump I am using now is a Smiths "Mini-Pack", which is famed the world over for being able to wake the dead, but was designed for use in truck tail lifts etc.

While not wishing to put it to the test, it should have enough power to jack the car off the canopy in an emergency!

It's funny, when you get out on the road you don't notice how low you are in comparison to other cars. My Nova measures 38" to the top of the canopy. If it was a Ford, it would be a GT38

(the latest Ford GT is a lot taller, which is why Ford dropped the GT40 tag)
