Re: Is the 166 ugly?
I think the 155 is actually a really good looking car - not beautiful but it has a presence. Don't know if I'm qualified to comment on that though because, living in Australia I've never seen one in the flesh (didn't stop me from trying to buy one but that's a totally different story - I have this mental image of a dark coloured 155 with 164 cloverleaf wheels that sometimes haunts me).
I'm probably not allowed to comment on the 166 either because I'm biased, but I think they too are stunning. While I don't think the car photographs well, in real life I think the 166 is a truly beautiful car.
Its all in the detail to, the way the bonnet shut line frames the headlights, the way the contour of the door flares around the wheelarches, the way everything appears to be designed around the Alfa shield means it could never be anything that's not an Alfa Romeo.
And the rarity of the 166 means that even as some of them are getting old, they still have another factor - 166 ownership is an exclusive club, which is better than those on the outside would think from short test drives and road test articles. It really is a rewarding car, to look at, to drive and to own.
