166 heater fan replacement - mysterious wire connections

I just replaced my heater fan, on my 2.0 166. Had a lot of jigging around to get it back in. On the wiring loom near the fan there are three connections,
one to the motor on the fan, one to the cabin air / outside air flap,
on the heater box, and one other two pin connection.

What does this, two pin, connection connect to? There is a two pin plug but the ends of this are not connected. I am wondering where they should connect to? From the plug near the fan they are only about a foot long - two spade ends on the wires.

The new fan is working fine and so is the aircon.
