166 handling - change wheel rims or dampers?
I've had the 166 3.0V6 for 2 months now and although very pleased I would like to tweak the handling.
It has 17" rims and standard shock absorbers and springs. My perception is that the ride comfort is very good but it really thumps over manhole covers and potholes, and tramlines alot particularly when touching the white lines down the centre of the road or changing lanes.
The ride is quite 'floaty' on motorways, with a tendency to 'dive' into corners. When pulling upo to a stop, it kind of rocks back and forth a tiny amount. I dont think the dampers are faulty, just cr*p!
On my GTV I swapped to Koni Yellow adjustible shox set at +50% and the ride comfort and handling was transformed beyond belief. I wish I had done it sooner.
I'm tempted to do the same with the 166. However my wife thinks the fault is with the 17" rims and that I should change those to 16". I accept the rims dont help, particularly with potholes, but they do look good.
