166 TS poor MPG / noisy exhaust more help!
As an update to an earlier post, and soliciting as much technical feedback as anyone can give!
My 166 TS has poor MPG (25 on a run) and sounds very throaty. I took it to a local exhaust 'specialist' who confirmed it was blowing "somewhere near the front where we don't get involved". Biting the bullet I popped into my local AR Main dealer and asked if one of the technicians (what happened to good old fashioned mechanics) could take a look. He very quickly spotted a large tear in the coupling between the air box and the throttle body (or is it MAF?) behind the engine (how did I miss THAT), and said that was almost certainly the problem, supprised it was running at all. Off to parts, no we don't sell that as a separate item, you have to buy the whole airbox assembly! I thought I'd prove it as the fault first so rushed home to get out the super glue and masking tape. An hour and a very professional looking repair later out for a spin, and NOTHING...no change, no difference, still loud with about 25 MPG return at 60 mph...so is it the exhaust manifold gasket, down pipes or some form of coupling. As it so enclosed at he front of the TS I cannot get in to see. Any suggestions, and how do you get to the manifold...is there a separate downpipe or is it part of the manifold?
