Re: 164 Project
Just found a copy of "CAR" magazine from October 1988. They had a first test on the 164 and put it up against the Rover Vitesse (with the V6 Honda engine in it) and the (then) new 5 series Beamer with the 2.5 straight 6.
Interestingly, they quote the Alfa's kerb weight as 1303kg !!! This, I am sure, is complete cobblers as I have weighed my own car on a decent set of corner weight scales in the past and it comes out at 1417kg (although it does have a towbar fitted). Still, I have to admit that the car is lighter than the Beamer or the Rover (if their figures are to be believed)!
They got 0-60 out of it in 8 seconds dead and 139MPH top end.
Surprisingly, (and rather disappointingly, I have to admit!) the Alfa had the worst specific power output of the three cars - 65bhp / litre compared to the 66 of the Rover and 68 from the Beamer. It did, however have the most power because it had the biggest engine!
