The main reason I bought my 166 was for a big Euro trip I have planned for 2007. My other cars were either too small or too old and whilst looking for a "BIG" car to do the trip, BMW, Audi even SAAB
, someone on the FCCUK site suggested the Big Alfa.
Since buying the car I have taken it on a couple of long distance runs and have to say how impressed I have been with the way the car eats up the miles. The 166 will never match the thrill you get form driving a Fiat Coupé, but then the Coupé is as different a car as you could get to a 166
All the small niggles with the car have now been fixed (Alarm Siren, Cruise Control, water in a rear lamp and common the dash box lid problem) and the time for departure is fast approaching. I have to say we are all looking forward to spending time in the Alfa and don't feel that the planned 2700+ miles spent in the car will be an issue.
I have arranged a visit to a good friend in Holland who is able to get good prices on Fiat & Alfa parts and I will be looking to replace the radiator, and possibly fit a stainless steel exhaust, whilst I am there.
Only down side is that I have not been able to get any Euro software for the Alfa Nav system, it has MRE but that is it. So I have instead got Euro maps for Tom Tom on my mobile and will have to use that if I get lost
When I return from the trip I will then have to try and justify to myself that keeping the Alfa is the right thing to do. I am falling for all the charms of the big car but there is no way that I could ever part with the Coupé, My Toy will probably never be sold
Because I and the wife commute 25 miles each way to work the Seat TDi has to stay too
So do I keep the big Alfa as a third car, the familly car, or sell it and buy a Mundano.... Focus.. etc
