Re: alfa main dealer servicing.
Mickey, had a look in the service book 2 services by Dixons 3rd. one
by Dews of Brighouse, considering all they have done is change the oil
and filter and couldnt' even put the undertray back on ,
Consumption, being using on short runs at the moment about 22.5 mpg
long runs28mpg,so I would think overall 24-25 mpg,my last v6
averaged 24.5 mpg over 6 mths. driving so that sounds about right.
Considering having an ecu remap by Angel Tuning of Leamington
Spa,more mid range flexibilty and a claimed mpg improvement of
3-4 mpg,they have plenty of good feedback,for £299.
Now all the minor issues have been sorted I have to say the car
seems in fine order, runs nice and cool(just below 90c),gearchange
is nice and light, clutch light and progressive, the brakes were crap
but new pads all round has sorted that out.
I have to say the front seats are excellent, with the adjustable
lumbar support,I used to run Saabs and they had similar seats,
the 166 to me is very much like an updated Saab 9000,in other
words its' the car that Saab never made, but of course they
would have used a turbo 4 cyl. engine, not surprising when
you think how close the Saab 9000 and Alfa 164 were related.
The only real criticisms of the 166 are the poor ride, and
excessive road noise, apart from that great cars, look forward
to hearing how you are getting on with yours.
One important tip,get underneath and paint the oil cooler pipes
on the front o/s where they are exposed with hammerite, they
go very rusty quickly and are a mission to change!
