166 Clutch Pedal bracket problems

Hi folks,
I have noticed recently that my clutch pedal travel is getting shorter and shorter, so much so that unless I push the pedal right into the carpet the gears sometimes crunch.

I had a look under the dash today and found that the metalwork around the master cylinder was cracked allowing the master cylinder to move before it starts acting on the piston.

Looks like a hell of a job to do any work under there has anyone else had to do a repair like this?
Any advice would be appreciated.

If it's possible Colin, it might be worth posting a pic, it would be easier to offer any advice then.
