166 climate control problem

Hi all,

I'm posting this on behalf of a mate who has a '99 166 twin-spark..

The other day when he turned it on - he noticed a small puff of smoke coming from the dash somewhere.. and afterward noticed that the blower no longer worked.. whilst the two may not be related - seems plausible that they're connected..

Not knowing anything about the 166 myself - I thought I'd ask you guys if there was a well-known fault with the blower controller/climate system?? What would be the worst-case scenario? is there a major ECU that controls the whole thing?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Worst case scenario, new heater blower motor,I believe they are
about £120 and 4 hours labour,so if you go to a good indie
you are looking at getting on for £300,as it is fairly hard to get to.
