You can bump start an auto, but it takes quite a bit of road speed. It sounds like you've run absolutely dry, which means there is air in the fuel rail. This will take quite a bit of work for the pumps to sort. I think you'll either need (a mechanic?) to bleed the fuel rail. Or a full battery so you can spend alot of time cranking the engine over so the fuel eventualy gets through. Warning, you are generally cautioned about using the starter motor longer than 30 second bursts.
Another option is the fuel pump has broken. Are you sure it ran out of fuel in the tank, and the pump hasn't stopped working by co-incidence? also, one a fuel pump has sat dry, it's thier favorite time to seize.
Unless you're mechanically skilled, I'd advise against investigating the pump function yourself.
