Re: Looking for my first 166
Cam belt, tensioners ,idlers and if it needs replacing water pump,
creaking front suspension(worn wishbones),manual very heavy clutch,
check for overheating in traffic(radiator),check all electrics, especially
ICS,make sure centre locking works on all doors( often faulty), full
service history with supporting invoices essential.60k. service includes
plug changes(2hrs. v6),cambelt change 36k. t/spark, 72 k. v6,but
ideally should have been done.3.0 v6 manual best, plenty of torque,
2.5 ok but no real improvement in mpg,T/spark has to be driven hard
to extract any real performance, have had both v6 is far better,
about 23-24mpg v6,26-29 mpg t/spark.Lastly make sure you get
all the keys(very expensive they have to be coded to the car),and
the ICS code card.
I have to say they are brilliant drivers' cars and half the cost of
an equivalent BMW 5 series in my opinion an equally good car,but
very common and lacking in character!
