Thanks guys for the help received with my previous posts.
Having read through many of the threads posted on this site, I'm beginning to see that this is probably one of the best forum sites around!
I used to belong to the 'Brickboard' forum when I had a Volvo 940 turbo; that also had some very enthusiastic members more than willing to help other members in trouble.
I've had my I64 for a couple of months now and a couple of problems are beginning to surface; possibly connected?
The engine at idle has never really been silky smooth, but bring the revs up to around 1000 rpm or above and it seems to lose any lumpiness.
Whilst accelerating, there appears to be a bit of a flat spot at around 3000 rpm, once I accelerate through that, the car just takes off!
At motorway cruising speed
Another thing I've noticed, is that if I accelerate a bit sharpish (I never thrash it!) between gear changes you can hear what sounds like a waste gate valve, like you hear on a 'Max Power' hot hatch! is this normal?
Very occasionally, it doesn't start at the first turn of the key (which it usually does) I might have to crank it over 2 or 3 times... no probs once started.
One aspect of the car that I'm not entirely happy about, is the exhaust system.
Most of the system, including downpipes was replaced by the previous owner (at some expense according to the invoices I have) the only original part appears to be the cat!
At idle (being a bit lumpy) at strange ticking noise (I say ticking because it's a noise difficult to explain) seems to emanate from the cat; raise the revs and it dissapears!
The previous owner mentioned that he replaced the twin pipe exhaust (as can be seen in my photo's) at the end of last year as it was corroded and getting quite noisy.
the rear box now has one wide tail pipe.
I'm now wondering if the cat is on its way out; possibly blocked?
I've read so many threads about faulty MAF's and idle control valves, that my heads spinning!
I've checked and cleaned parts like the throttle body, air pipes etc...
I've now booked the car into Gonnella Brothers for next week, as recommended by a couple of the other members, so will let you all know how I get on.
