Re: 164 TS Starter Motor Removal
If I remember rightly, there are three 8m bolts holding the starter to the bell housing and a bracket/stay at the rear. The rear bracket is held by an 8m nut to the block and 2 x 5m nuts, screwed onto the rear starter motor studs.
There are two heavy duty cables and one light cable, running to the starter main terminal. I believe there is also another light wire running to the starter mounted solenoid.
I think I removed the oil pressure switch to gain access to the top bolt (bellhousing) and the others are reachable from the top.(or underneath)
The rear ones disconnect from underneath.
The cables are hard to disconnect/reconnect in situ, so start to pull motor away first, then disconnect them. Reverse for assembly.
Rear bracket is a pig!! Best use 1/4" socket set.
Don't forget to disconnect the battery earth first!
