Re: 164 Clutch Please Help
I don't know if your still struggling with this but I had the same problem, I spent over 8 hours in total faffing with that bolt, got the scratches and bruises to prove it!
In the end it took me 5 minutes!
If anyone else has the tools you can do it with the following:
1. 1/4" Drive socket
2. about 12" of 1/4" extensions
the 1/4" allows it to get past all the gubbins easily and onto the bolt head.
3. 1/4" Universal joint
4. 1/4 to 3/8" adapter
5. about 2ft of 3/8" extensions.
Sounds mad I know but it works.
6. 3/8" Ratchet.
If you get the front end of the car up with the o/s wheel removed you can feed the socket with 12" extension on to the bolt head from underneath, delicate fiddling should get it on the head.
If you leave it stationary which is possible, it should'nt fall off unless you knock the car. Go around to the topside of the engine bay and you should be able to get a finger behind the rear head at the bellhousing to check it's on.
Now you need a second pair of hands so grab a freind who is willing to get under the car. Get them to hold the extension straight and on the bolt head.
Feed the 3/8" extension through a very fine gap above the power steering pump and connect it to the UJ.
You should now be sorted, hold the extensions firmly to stop the UJ from cockling the socket off and unfasten.
I still have my gearbox/starter off so I cannot say if this will work as easily to put the bolt back in.
Hope this has helped anyone in the same situation!
