Buying 166

I have been offerred a 166 2 litre in what looks like an excellent condition, with a new MOT. Please advise me of what I should look for that may not be obvious to me. I am doing the cam belt, although the mileage is 61000 miles, just to be on the safe side. Thanks.

Re: Buying 166

Hi GFK. The 166 is generally solid so your car sounds like it will not be too problematic . You are making the right choice with the cambelt, and also check:

> Rear tyres on their INSIDE edges; wear indicates tracking issues
> Front tyres as the car can be quite tough on them!
> Electrics all round, especially the ICS and the central locking
> The MAF sensor, usually given away by poor idling or starting issues
> Creaking or knocking when you corner or go over a speed bump (bushes)

Let us know how you get on!
