I've had Bilstein B6 dampers fitted. As said above, a car is transformed by fitting good dampers, but a 166 more than most. I find now that the feel is taut and precise, and control over movements is excellent, and that is with standard springs. Bigger bumps do give a thump up through the seat, but that horrible crack bang over potholes is gone, so that overall comfort where it counts is actually improved, really they feel so good. Passengers notice this and comment on the lack of falling about through curves. The dampers catch the weight early and hold it well. The front wheels can get power down on the ground much better over poor surfaces than before. Throttle steer control is childsplay. Braking dive is hugely reduced, again, this is with standard springs!
