I'm on my second 166 now, a lovely 3.0 Super V6 in silver. I always liked the look of the car on the 17" 5-hole alloys and lowered ride height (comapared to the TS etc).
Anyway, at the last service (84k if you're interested), I asked my mechanic - Wynn Lear of CW Lear in Keighley - to investigate a knocking noise coming from the off-side front corner when manoevering at low speeds. Turns out that the spring was broken at the bottom and needed replacing....
So, got the job done as part of the service, with the correct spring fitted (I double checked the part number with Alfa myself).
BUT, being a shallow sort of fellow, the car now lucks daft, with the ride height on the off-side front much higher than the near side, almost like the car's on stilts.....not very becoming of the 'sports suspension' methinks.
So, the question is:
>has the part been fitted correctly, or
>is it the wrong part (even though I've checked this), or
>is it imbalanced because the near-side spring is shot as well?
It's really upsetting me this, because every time I step into/out of the car it just looks wrong somehow. I've even got a tape measure on the job and found that the wheelarch gap to the wheel is 3cm higher on the off-side - confirming my suspicions. My wife thinks I'm losing it by the way!
