trying to tidy up my 166, and so far been buying up 166 alloys (off ebay etc). Just about managed to get a set of 4 decent (90%) wheels.
Anyway have now ended up with 9 spare wheels
I am now considering having a go at refurbing the spare wheels, I know I can get them done by a company for around £50 each, but as these are spares I don't really want to spend the cash. Plus I have got the time and fancy trying to do a good job myself.
Thing is after reading up on this, sounds a job getting the right materials to do it.
First, stripping the old paint, various articles I have read do not suggest sandblast as this can damage the alloy wheel material, instead they suggest using a chemical stripper. Anyone done this, and if so where can I buy the stuff.
Second, repainting. Again articles read suggest using Wurth wheel paint, trouble is can't find it anywhere, plus would like to get a colour similar to the wheel colour already, and I think the Wurth is a single colour. I have seen that Hycote do wheel paint and lacquer, so may look for that. Anyone tried to match the wheel colour before.
I suppose lastly as these are spare wheels, may try a different colour on the wheels any ideas, my car is metallic grey colour, and the wheels are the std 16" alloys, do not a lot to play with
