steering rack boot replacement

Hi, my 164 Cloverleaf has just failed MoT on a split n/s steering rackboot. I've got a donor car, but am struggling a bit over how to get the old gaiter off - it has a very odd shape and appears to be held on by a nut which I can't undo (keeps turning) - also access to the inside of the boot seems very hard - has anyone done the job? and got any tips?

Re: steering rack boot replacement

The shaft that the nut is in should have a hex keyway at the end, so you need a spanner and an allen/hex key to undo it whist keeping the shaft still.

Getting the boot off/on in situe is a bit fiddley and tight for room, but do-able with patience (it's the band that'll get you).
