been there done that.
I gave up asking for quotes. Most people said it was dealer only. The prices were insane.
I ended up having a www.powerflow.co.uk
(leeds) rear box made for a reasonable price last year £180? in stainless lifetime warranty etc. Sounds good too, avoided the dustbin exit pipe and went for a standard look.
NOW I need the box between the cat and the back box. This time I phoned up thinking similar thing, easier to make but £240+VAT !!!!
stuff that apparently "the price of stainless has gone up"
anyway it looks like I shall be ordering from gazelle racing as quoted in the link above. I'll post
NEXT thing, I have a blow between the manifold and the head on the rear bank (nearest the bulkhead). I need a new gasket.
Anyone any experience of changing them? I have the ePER CD and it makes out it is straightforward, take it out through the driver's side wheel arch after you have removed the alternator and the oil filter. Anyone done it with the engine in situe?
I'm pretty handy with plenty of kit but I would like to know what to look for. My local garage has politely declined the offer to work on it and I don't blame them. It could cost £1000 in labour if the studs break and the head has to come off. SO I will be doing it myself.
If you are a long term owner of a 166 and planning to keep it a while look at your brake pipes that run around the fuel tank. apparently they missed off about 25mm of anticorrosion protection at either end and as a result they corode meaning a petrol tank-out replacement. If you or your mechanic are under there it might be worth tracing the pipes and protecting either end properly.
I need two pipes replacing for MOT- tank out job.
