First, they sent me a failing MAF. I just sent it back and they sent me a new one, and that's working perfectly fine. No problems with the 5k rev limit with this one, and accelleration is also fine.
However, my old one worked just as well. It turns out that the problems I have (that made me/you think of the MAF in the first place) are not related to the MAF at all, although my garage hasn't quite figured out what the actual problem is.
They changed the distribution just over a month ago, and since then the car is not running very smoothly. The whole car is shaking during stationary (especially when then engine is warm), and it just doesn't feel smooth when driving at a constant 45-55 mph (~70-80 km/h).
They keep reconfirming that it isn't the timing that's off (they're actually 110% sure......... yeah, right...), but they can't seem to find the real problem. I'm pretty sure that it's caused by the distribution work they've done, so it's really their problem. Had the spark plugs renewed as well (they said that might also be the cause), and that also didn't fix it.
To go short: the MAF is perfectly fine.
