Cars been overheating very quickly so i thought 1 of 2 things
2, headgasket leaking into the cooling system.
I've changed the thermostat which was fubar. i think the previous owner must have tried modifing it's operation and he fitted a new radiator in his quest to fix the car.
Thing is though i believe it to be airlocked because the dash is showning 100c top hose takes the epidermis off. and the heater is blowing cold.
and if the head gasket was leaking i'd expect the reservior to be bulling merrily away which it aint.
Whats the best way to ensure the cars not airlocked? as i've ran it for 20 minites at 90-100c on the gauge with the heater on full this has worked for me before but not this time
If top hose is hot then the stat is clearly opening, does the rad feel hot as well? heater blowing cold is strange which suggests no circulation. Could be blocked rad (not uncommon in older cars) or water pump fubar.
There should be from memory a brass screw/bolt on the stat which you can open a little to ensure air bled out of system but if top hose hot then there must be water there.....
If it were me I would wait until engine cool, take stat out, remove bottom hose and flush with a hosepipe to see if there is a blockage.
