but inside I'm crying
Few days ago I started to get a rattle from the engine on my V6 - started off very intermittent, but has quickly gotten more regular.
Got the bonnet up, & had a listen, rattle seemed to be coming from the belts end of the block
Then on the way back from watching Miami Vice with my little brother, he noticed a 'burning' smell that I couldn't smell.
Monday, tho, when I started the car after work, there was a squeeking like a belt rubbing (with burning rubber smell), that stopped once the rattle started.
Got a 2nd opinion off my Dad this evening - his immediate conclusion was the timing belt tensioner pulley
What else might possibly have failed?
I don't really want to change the belt - it was only changed 20k ago & was looking at the parts prices on Eper - I guess proper job would be belt, idler pulley, tensioner & water pump, which comes to about £360 + labour.
Any other options?
