Re: 166 Springs/shocks
I am just about to order Koni Sport dampers for front and rear (£350 from Alfashop). I've used these on my previous Alfa GTV6 and 2000GTV (105 Series) and am expecting them to be good on the 166. I am keeping the standard springs and ride height.
My 166 2.5 V6 has done 40000 miles and the standard dampers don't work too well on the bumpy bends. The standard Alfa dampers are well past their best after about 15000 miles, in my experience with an Alfa 155 and two Alfa 156s. Unfortunately as these were company cars there was no way the leasing company would accept that there was a problem.
I am convinced that the poor damping is contibutory to the woefully short life of the suspension bushes.
I'll let you know how I get on with the Konis. I'll be replacing the front lower wishbones and rear suspension bushes too. (I'm in the middle of a fairly big rennovation program - dashboard coming out this weekend to try to fix leaks from the air intake area).
