Re: Whats my car worth?
Having been exhaustively chased by Alfa to try the 159, I have to say that having finally done it, I'm a little disappointed(!).
I tried a 2.4 JTD first of all. I thought it was sluggish and didn't make a very exciting noise; plus, like James May reminds us, a diesel is a bit like a child's glockenspiel - just as things start getting interesting, you run out of notes! I got back in my 166 after the 159 and it absolutely flew! In fairness, it's probably no quicker in reality but it felt so much better to drive.
I later tried the 2.2 JTS which was much more like it - responsive, tuneful and ready to rev, if not as quick or economical as the JTD - but you only live once and Gordon Brown could already have bought several properties for the amount of fuel tax I've paid in the last few years. If all you care about is economy, buy a citroen.
I'll still wait a wee while before I buy my next car - the 3.0 SL is running like a dream following its big service. If anything, I think I'd go for another 166 over a 159 - so much more character and, dare I say, style! I'd take a 3.2 on 18" multi-spoke alloys every day of the week....make it dark metallic blue with the tan leather interior, hi-fi, sat-nav and xenoms while you're at it. I must stop now as I'm drooling again!!!
