Our's is in need of some TLC (esp. since a family member put it in a hedge
). It's currently being repaired (new front spoiler, oil cooler and foglights) and I was heartbroken to learn (though financially happy) of a bloke that scraps them for spare. I think it's such a shame to break such wonderful cars, but the reality is that although they're classics, their financial worth is so little. We wouldn't sell ours for less than five grand, but if it was written off, we'd be lucky to see a grand from the insurance.
To clarify what ours needs doing. No headlamp washers (been on backorder for two years
), idle is very rough, paintwork is mottled — though still shiny when cleaned, sunroof leaks, another leak ending up in passenger footwell, leaking petrol tank, centre console completely knackered (hazards always coming on, boot and petrol cap opener often don't work, display buggered), lacquer has come off the grey bits on the bottom of the doors, rubber trim on the door sill — slipping out through the rear door, alarm fubared, electronic suspension not working.
Sounds like a nightmare, but put your foot down and all is forgiven! I really don't think it would take too much to sort it out, but it just takes so long and there's so little time (and skill) available, unfortunately can't afford to get someone to do it professionally.
