Re: 166 Spare key & Windows re-coding program
Yes, £40 is a rip off for the card. I was definitely told £15 or so and that's plenty. I wasn't thinking of using a non-button key, although I suppose that would still work if the door was always locked/unlocked manually.
Presumably, a plip key could be purchased to match the original. Is there any way to adjust the frequency of the plip to match a specific alarm? If the key costs around £20 and the code card another £15, then the dealer is charging around £65 to program it, which is excessive. I would be surprised if the programming is difficult to do - it's just a question of tracking down the correct piece of software.
I assume, from the replies, that it is possible to use the emergency starting method on UK cars, as long as a code card is obtained?
I'm off to Germany shortly and may check with the Alfa dealers there, in case there's any difference.
