I found the problem !!! And boy oh boy did I go to hell and back to get it sorted !!!!
It turned out to be the water pump making the noise. The "wheel" that pumps the water round had split almost in half !!
Simple job!! Well, kind of..... Part was £70. Labour would have been more, but my dad and decided it was simple enough. And yes, it is I suppose. But we didn't anticipate it being behind the cambelt !!!
So, we locked the cams in place while we took the belt off, etc, put the new pump in put it back to together. Turned her over, only to find that it didn't want to turn over at all. Infact there was a nasty noise coming from the engine on turn over !!! S**T.
Basically, the timing went out and as a result, bent the valves !!!
So I was without my car for 6 weeks while I looked inside the engine and decided I couldn't do anymore, and took it to my local mechanic who deals with continental cars.
He installed 12 new valves and a new cambelt and hey presto, car is back on the road !!
I now wish I just spent £200-£300 on getting the pump replaced, seeing as the parts and labour for the new valves came to a sweet £1100.....
So whatever you guys do, PLEASE DO NOT MESS AROUND WITH ANYTHING THAT WILL DISTURB YOUR CAMBELT !!!!
Naughty Naughty me !!
(car is back to full health, thankfully !! And I'm loving it all over again!!)
