My previously reliable alarm system has started acting up. The system is a Philips PH406, fitted to my 1995 N 24V Super. A week or so back, it activated and wouldn't disarm from the remote. I had to switch it off with the keyswitch in the boot. If I switch it back on, the siren starts immediately and doesn't switch off. The remote is still inoperative, both to disarm the system and to operate the central locking. Also, the hazard lights come on without flashing while siren sounds.
The green & red indicator lights inside the cabin are acting wierd too. With the alarm switched off, I was initially getting both lights on. Over time, the green light flickered to extinction and now the red is sometimes on, sometimes off and sometimes flickering.
I have two Philips remote switches and both appear to have no influence on the system. I also have two original Alfa remote switches for the central locking, which worked when I tried them on Sunday, but only if I held them very close to the receiver. I replaced the batteries in these and now they are doing nothing.
I wonder is water has got into some component? The car is misting up inside rather more than usual and aircon is taking a long time to clear the misted windows. I can't feel any damp on the carpets and there's no pool in the scuttle. I tried moving the carpet section from the nearside of the centre console and can see nothing amiss there. I looked there because in my old T-spark water got into something down there and buggered the central locking.
Does anyone have any ideas? Frankly, I could live without the alarm, but miss the r/c central locking.
